One of the most common questions I get asked is what do I wear when I run. So I’m going to give you the run down on what I wore head to toe for the BMO Vancouver Half Marathon this past Sunday. Running attire is an incredibly personal thing, what works for me may not work for you and sometimes it’s a game of hit or miss, fingers crossed that those “misses” occur during a relatively short run during training and not in the middle a half marathon.
Feet:
- Gorgeous, bright orange Newton Gravitas. I LOVE these shoes more than I love my favorite pair of heels. So much in fact that I was drooling over a new pair on the Newton website tonight…I just need to somehow justify buying a 2nd pair a mere 5 months after I bought these ones.

- Lululemon knee-high compression socks. I’ve had these socks for quite a long time now and they are my favorite! I haven’t been able to find them in Lulu stores for a looong time and I fear that they’ve discontinued them. I love the circulation support that these socks give me and as an added bonus; they look super cute too!
- Lululemon Run Speed Short in black. It’s no secret I love me some Lululemon gear. I’ve had these particular shorts for a while now too, they’ve stood the test of time and I keep coming back to them.
Top Half:
- Lululemon Power Y Tank in blue underneath my Run: Swiftly Tech long sleeve shirt in sprinkler. You’ll find my review on the Run:Swiftly top here.
-
fuel belt aka "comfort" Helium 2-bottle (7 oz) hydration belt. This is my ultimate comfort item. I feel naked without it. From the moment I started using this belt I’ve never looked back, it’s super comfy, doesn’t jiggle or bounce and I barely even notice that I have it on at all. Big thumbs up!
- Ryders “Duchess” Sunglasses in black. Another comfort item of mine.
- iPod shuffle in hot pink of course/standard earphones. I know a lot of runners have issues with using the run of the mill earphones, but I’ve never had issues with them, so don’t fix it if it’s not broken!
- Garmin Forerunner 110 watch, I’d be lost without it!
So, there you have it! I showed you mine, now show me yours! What do YOU wear when you run? Do you have any comfort items or must haves?
xoxo, MLL
Great job at the Vancouver Marathon! Thanks for giving Newton Running a shout out on your blog–keep up the great work!

Of course, I’m a huge fan of Newton Running. So THANK YOU for making such great products. I’ve been running in Newton’s for about 5 months and have noticed a huge difference in my performance and recovery time. Now if only I can get my hands on a new pair of the bright pink Distancia’s! (on my wish list). Thank again for checking out my blog.

Oh snap! Newton Running commented on your blog! HELLO? That’s awesome!!
EEEEEK! I love, love, LOVE your Newtons!! I am in love with Newtons, but have yet to just break down, get the credit card hot, and buy a pair. I always manage to talk myself out of them, but one of these days I’m just going to go for it. I drool over them every time I go to my local running store. I love those lugs! And I love ALL of my running shoes more than my heels (never thought I’d say THAT!)
I’ve never tried Lululemon compression socks. I like CEP because they are TIGHT. How do the Lululemon ones feel on your legs? I love Lululemon tops and skirts…though sometimes I feel like my booty hangs out of the skirts a little (they can be a little short).
More power to you for the hydration belt. Those belts never fit me well…they always bounce up around my waist. I wish they worked for me.
I wear an iPod Shuffle in silver! I used to run with my bulky iPod Touch but then I realized how sweaty the armband got and how heavy it was. I made the switch and would NEVER go back. Besides, who needs a screen when you are running??
I’m a Garmin Forerunner 405 girl, and I rely on it too!

Katie! 🙂 What are you currently running in? I’m looking to get my hands on a pair of the new Newton Distance U’s! So hot! 🙂 I love my Gravitas though, but I know what you mean about getting the ol’ credit card out for them. *ouch*
Re: the Lulu compression socks, I really like them, but I need to find another brand to try since they aren’t making them any more. Maybe I’ll try the CEP ones. The Lulu’s aren’t overly tight, but snug enough to get the effect and the good structured feel of the compression.
And hi5! We’re music and watch twins too! I also ran with my iPod Touch for a looong time, finally ditched it to go with my older iPod shuffle. It just makes sense! Thanks for stopping by girlie! xo
